Have you got a thirst for knowledge and a desire for new experiences? Do you enjoy camping and spending time in nature? Love first-hand learning with your children?
In a society that is being de-skilled, we are keeping traditional knowledge alive and we want to share it with as many people as we can.
In one long weekend located in peaceful rural Kent, you could learn to carve a spoon, forge a knife blade, forage for wild food, create fire by friction (and by a multitude of other ways), skin and cook a rabbit and build a shelter in the woods as well as sampling other crafts and practical skills that will leave you thirsting for more. This year is the seventh annual event organised by the Bushcraft Magazine, an international magazine produced here in Egerton, that over three days in May brings to life the subject material of its pages with a little extra such as live acoustic music and traditional storytelling around the communal camp fire of an evening.
The May Meet is a totally family-friendly occasion with activities for everyone, including younger children. We have a team of experienced and friendly instructors who are ever willing to freely share their knowledge and it is all included in the cost of the weekend (with the exception of a few optional extras). There is also quality kit on sale if you are looking for equipment from ferro-rod, custom knives and fire steels to outdoor clothing. There is plenty to keep you busy during the day and after supper there is music, drumming , storytelling and, weather permitting, star-gazing.
Venue: Egerton, near Ashford, Kent. Please contact us for directions.
Costs for the weekend includes camping. You may bring a tent and there is a small wood where hammocks and tarps may be pitched. Fires are allowed but turf must be removed first. Please bring your own firewood.
There will be on-site water and toilet facilities. We hope to provide some catering. Your ticket (except where stated) allows you to participate in as many of each day’s events as you can fit in.
Please note: Friday is setting up day. There will be no workshops or activities but you may arrive to pitch camp any time after midday. Day tickets are not available for this day.
There will be an additional charge of £5 per person for tickets bought on the day.
Dogs are not permitted at this event without prior agreement from the organisers
